Waypost Marketing Joins Upstate SC Alliance
October 26, 2026Within my first two weeks at Waypost, I already felt at home.
I’m graduating from USC Upstate this December with a degree in Communications and a concentration in Public Relations, but my path here has been a little unconventional.
I started college studying nursing, so spending my days writing about plumbing and floor coatings wasn’t exactly in my original career plan. Some might see changing career paths as starting over, but for me, it finally felt like a step toward the life I want to build.
Coming into my first agency role, I knew I had a lot to learn. What stood out almost immediately was how much ownership I was given. From the beginning, I had real projects and people who trusted me to see them through. That trust made me want to put my best work forward, and having support along the way gave me the confidence to try things I hadn’t done before.
My supervisors, Sydney Hopkins and Reid Jackson, have made a big impact on my experience. They’re thoughtful about the projects they give me and how those assignments can help me grow and develop the skills that matter to me. They’ve also taken the time to learn what I enjoy, which definitely includes a good content calendar!
I love being part of the entire process and getting to see an idea turn into a finished post on a client’s social media. There’s still a little “I made that!” moment when I see something go live. It’s rewarding to know the work I’m doing has a place beyond the drafts folder and that clients are trusting us to represent their businesses well. I take that responsibility seriously, even when the assignment is finding a fun way to talk about kitchen drains.
Working with multiple clients has taught me just how much attention goes into getting things right. Before I start creating, I spend time reading the brand guidelines and looking through previous work so I can understand how each client communicates. Waypost does an amazing job of establishing that foundation. I get to bring my own ideas, but I’m learning how to make them feel at home in someone else’s brand.
Writing newsletters has been one of my favorite examples of growth. I came in with experience creating graphics and planning social content, but I had never written a newsletter. Getting to try my hand at something new and receiving positive feedback helped me feel more confident in my writing. Now I have a new skill to carry into future projects, along with more confidence in my ability to take on something unfamiliar.
Having the balance of ownership and guidance has made it easier to ask questions and keep learning. I know the Waypost team cares about the work because I have felt that same care in the way they’ve supported me. I’m especially grateful to Michelle Griggs for seeing the potential in me and giving me the opportunity to join Waypost, and to the whole team for making me feel so welcome.
As I get closer to graduation, my time at Waypost has made me even more excited about a career in marketing. I’ve really enjoyed the pace of agency work, but the people have made the biggest difference. Feeling trusted and supported throughout my internship has helped me grow more confident in what I can contribute. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of this team and excited to keep building on what I have learned during my time here.
